Lt. Gen. Juancho Sabban Lt. Gen. Juancho Sabban served as Commandant of the Philippines Marine Corps He is a proponent of socio-economic development in the conflict areas, and of intelligence-driven strikes against the Abu Sayyaf bandits and secessionist groups, as opposed to indiscriminate retaliatory use of force that results in civilian casualties. For his successes as field commander and as Commandant, he was featured by Ollie North in his television series, and was the subject of US-based strategic studies on the new way of war. In his last posting as Commander, Philippines Western Command from 2010-2013, he greatly increased the aggressive, combined services security operations, most of them "sovereignty patrols" in his area of responsibility - the West Philippines Seas, the Spratlys and the South China Sea adjacent to the Philippines island of Palawan, at the time of heightened tension between the Philippines and China. He and his wife, Irene are co-founders of Lingkod Timog, a Newport, Rhode Island and Zamboanga, Philippines based medical mission group serving indigent tribal minorities in the Southern Philippines.
